Brutally heavy atmospheric blackened sludge that will destroy you! I remember the first time I saw Nott live. I was very familiar with Julia Geaman, the amazing drummer for gothic death doom band Tribunal, but then was a bit surprised to see only one other person on stage, frontman and 8-string guitarist Tyler Campbell. I […]

Powerful and creative while remaining accessible, this is a serious slab of catchy heavy metal with some progressive flavor! My first time hearing Black Sites live is a fun story (at least for me). They were playing on the smaller Joint Stage at Legions of Metal in 2026, and they were on my list of

Fast, furious, brutal, and technical progressive tech death that will melt your face off! I enjoy discovering and supporting new bands, and it never ceases to amaze me the sheer amount of undiscovered talent just waiting to be consumed. It is also interesting how searching for information on a band can help you learn about

Dark, eerie, and moody doom / post metal from Spain! Black holes have always been a fascinating topic, at least to me. They are powerful constructs that seem to have the ability to suck away everything in their path, even light, holding it all in a natural maximum security prison with no possibility of escape.

A terrific metal festival in Chicago! I attended my first Legions of Metal at Reggies in Chicago, Illinois, the weekend of May 1 & 2, 2026. In general, I tend to bias more toward smaller indoor festivals, and I had been curious about this one for a few years. The focus tends to be on

February featured a lot of great albums, and

Hanging out with the distinguished professors of epic power doom! When I was in the process of deciding whether to attend Legions of Metal in Chicago this year, I went through the lineup, and there were a number of great bands that piqued my interest. However, one band I was unfamiliar with particularly caught my

Diametric forces collide in a gothic death doom display of heft and beauty! Music is such a great vehicle for conveying a variety of emotions. The often present darker textures, particularly in the doomier genres, translate so well to themes of loss, sorrow, and melancholy, and events in my own life over the past year

Doomy atmospheric post black and neo folk collide in trance-like beauty and brutality! I posted yesterday that I have been listening to more post metal, and lo and behold, here is two days in a row of reviews representing the genre. I also mentioned how broad the genre can be, and case in point, this
