When I was in the process of deciding whether to attend Legions of Metal in Chicago this year, I went through the lineup, and there were a number of great bands that piqued my interest. However, one band I was unfamiliar with particularly caught my eye. This band was Professor Emeritus, both because of the unconventional name and the description of epic power doom, and I was curious to find out more. After listening to their 2025 release, “A Land Long Gone,” I was instantly hooked, and the band became a key deciding factor for whether I would attend. Once I decided to go, they were easily one of my most anticipated bands to see at the fest.
