I just finished raving about Edge of Paradise and their 2023 dystopian concept album “Hologram,” but they just released their latest, “Prophecy,” yesterday! Edge of Paradise blends several styles together, with key metallic flavors including industrial, symphonic, and gothic, combined with a massive feel, striking melodies, and big vocals. Margarita Monet is a force behind the mic, with such a dynamic voice, huge range, and delivery that is both intense and punchy while able to step back and be silky smooth. There are crunchy guitar riffs galore, driving drums, plenty of electronic industrial synths, and masterful contrast between heavier and softer sections. Imagine elements of Amaranthe and Eleine with powerhouse vocals ala Evanescence, though Edge of Paradise carves out their own unique heavy sound that hits hard!

This album continues the story from “Hologram” while evolving their unique sound. Monet’s vocals continue to impress, demonstrating impressive range and hitting hard with an aggressive delivery while still being able to soften when needed. The guitars and synths are aggressive, the drums powerful, and each song builds on itself with myriad layers, unafraid to switch between fast and slow, hefty and quiet, or have multiple instruments complementing each other in different ways. The melding of industrial, electronic, gothic, and symphonic elements work so well, and the songs manage to feel very accessible while also fresh.

“Death Note” opens up with chunky riffing and big vocals. “Give It To Me” has a driving, crunchy industrial feel, with aggressive guitars and drumming, and Monet’s amazing vocals juxtaposed against the harsher sound of industrial outfit Ludovico Technique. “Prophecy Unbound” melds a middle eastern folksy feel with a heavy industrial edge and many musical folds, such as a breakdown serving as an interlude to a softer section before building back to an emphatic ending with great lead work. “Sad Life of a Rose” starts off as a gothic crooner, adding myriad layers as it ebbs and flows to a big finale. Epic “Rogue (Aim for the Kill)” picks the pace back up with a driving industrial riff and symphonic backbone, haunting vocals from Monet, and great guitar leads. “Hear Me” is an evocative gorgeous gothic piano-driven ballad that showcases Monet’s softer side and effortless range. Electro industrial “The Other Side of Fear” is constantly driving, with fabulous vocals and soloing. “Martyr (Monster)” is symphonic industrial goodness with some of my favorite guitar work on the album. “Relive Again” is like an amped up power ballad with a massive feel. Closer “Falling Light” is bombastic and epic, deftly navigating dynamics as it builds to a huge finish.

This album is mesmerizing, and I am excited to see many of these songs live!
